- Influence of Organic Manures and Fertilizers on Nutrient Uptake, Yield and Quality in Cabbage-Baby Corn Cropping Sequence

Field experiments were conducted at Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, during rabi and kharif seasons of 2010 and 2011 to study direct, cumulative, or residual effect of organic manures (Farmyard Manure, Vermicompost, Poultry Manure, Neem Cake, and combinations thereof) along with the recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF) and absolute Control, on nutrient uptake, yield and quality in cabbage-baby corn cropping sequence system. Results showed that application of recommended dose of fertilizers [N, P and K (100:50:50 kg ha-1)] recorded highest yield in cabbage (38.91t ha-1), which was comparable to combined application (2.89t ha-1) of poultry manure and neem cake (37.9t ha-1). In baby corn, maximum yield (6.12t ha-1) was recorded with recommended dose of fertilizers, followed by the combined use of poultry manure and neem cake (5.80t ha-1). Among various treatments, residual effect and combined application of poultry manure and neem cake to a preceding cabbage crop, recorded maximum yield in baby corn (4.71t ha-1) over other treatments. Similar trend was seen in nutrient uptake by cabbage and baby corn (cumulative and residual). Highest protein and ascorbic acid content in cabbage, residual and cumulative baby corn was recorded with application of poultry manure + neem cake (2.89t ha-1), and poultry manure + FYM (6.11t ha-1) respectively.Keywords

Objectives: To develop a well-organised system in the vehicle number plate detection. Methods: The major techniques used in the implementation of the designs are gray scale conversion, black and white image conversion, filling holes, border detection and image segmentation. This is helpful to easily detect the license plate and identify the vehicle details. This is implemented on the real images. Findings: This algorithm provides overall accuracy and the average processing time with the images processing during day and night. This system works well in different illumination conditions. Applications: This system can be used for Indian roads scenario since there is no proper lane marking system and there is always a chance to get many disturbances in the images. This technique is applicable mainly at different restricted areas and highly confidential areas.Keywords

With increased number of food and grocery retail outlets and availability of a variety of products, customers have become accustomed to patronizing multiple retailers. Retailers have recognized this trend and are of the view that customer satisfaction plays a role in the success of business strategies. Therefore it has become important for food and grocery retailers to try to stay in business for a long time and need to establish a strong relationship with customer and their focus should be on the customer satisfaction. Advance information technology tools like Business Intelligence (BI) helps retailers to identify the likings and disliking of its customers and helps in building a strong bond with existing customers and also to attract many more new customers.
This paper investigates the customer preferences, and tries to find the impact of trends in retailing on customer satisfaction of food retailing in the Indian retail context. For this, an empirical study was conducted considering customers of five organized food retailers namely, More supermarket, Reliance Fresh, Spencer’s, Big Bazar and D Mart. From the study, it is observed that majority of the customers of five food retail outlets reported positively towards product quality, reliability of services with present trends in retailing; while Big Bazar and D mart are providing value for money, other retailers drive customer satisfaction with additional services. In addition, comparative analysis between these organized food retail stores is shown.

Artificial infestation of Sesamia inferens larvae at 2 leaf stage (7 DAE) of the crop growth (Table 1) recorded significantly lowest mean grain yield of 47.59 q ha-1 than infested at 4 (53.44 q ha-1), 6 (59.84 q ha-1) and 8 (67.34 q ha-1) leaf stage of the crop. Artificial infestation of the maize crop with different larval densities (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 larvae per plant) (Table 2) indicated that release of 20 larvae per plant adversely affected the grain yield and recorded 49.97 q ha-1 which was significantly less than the grain yield obtained with 15 larval density (54.12 q ha-1) and 10 larval density per plant (57.32 q ha-1). Estimation of avoidable yield losses in maize crop against S. inferens (Table 3) indicated that among the different stages of the crop growth, 2 leaf stage of the crop protected with endosulfan recorded maximum avoidable yield loss with different larval densities (18.17%, 22.45%, 35.12%, 37.62% and 45.39% with 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 larval density per plant, respectively), than the other stages of crop and hence spraying of endosulfan at early stages of crop growth was found highly effective for controlling S. inferens and for obtaining higher yields.Keywords

The varietal screening studies of ten maize genotypes were carried out under field conditions with artificial infestation of Sesamia inferens and the classification of the maize genotypes was done based on the dead hearts and leaf injury rating. Among the ten maize genotypes, Madhuri (5.03) was classified as highly resistant genotype, while BML 7 (5.33) was placed under resistant category. The genotype, HKI 163 (5.87) was classified as moderately resistant genotype. The remaining five genotypes viz., HQPM 1 (6.50), MP 717 (6.93), BML 6 (7.03), BH 40625 and BH 1576 (7.90) were grouped as highly susceptible.Keywords

The present investigation was carried out to study the marketing behaviour of groundnut farmers in Anantapuramu district of Andhra Pradesh. Ex-post facto research design was followed for the study and a sample of 120 respondents were drawn. The results of the study revealed that 67.50 per cent of the groundnut farmers had medium marketing behaviour followed by high (18.33%) and low (14.16%) levels of marketing behaviour with medium planning orientation (79.16%), medium production orientation (79.16%), medium marketing orientation (69.16%), medium marketing information sources utilization (74.17%), medium decision making ability (70.83%), medium risk taking ability (68.33%).Keywords
